Roger Nulton Tacoma, WA From: Brian Jackson Sent: Thursday, January 13, 2011 7:21 AM To: [email protected] Subject: {S-Scale List} Re: More on switch machines and plywood Bill, I would advise against going with a plywood/homasote/homasote roadbed sandwich because sheets of homasote vary considerably in thickness. In contrast, I think a 3/4 ply plus homasote roadbed sandwich would be ideal. I was forever sanding and filling the joints between homasote sheets to get them level with each other. Sanding homasote will fill your basement and lungs with nasty dust. The homasote roadbed is milled and thus maintains a consistent thickness. I get why people use sheets of homasote for yards--we did--but I would never, ever use it for anything else, and I'm not sure I would use it again for yards. You will get excellent sound deadening qualities with the ply/homasote roadbed sandwich, so adding another layer of homasote would be unnecessary and expensive.
