Hi Jim;

Good news is, most grassy track would be a bit short on ballast. It either was 
mostly dirt to begin with, or the ballast was infiltrated by dirt. I think the 
folks writing about making the track with static grass applied glue between the 
ties, then applied the static grass. A quick vacume would remove most fibers 
from the ties once the glue dried.
