At the risk of annoying, might I suggest that several of you join efforts and
create an S Scale-specific magazine. Who better than the literate experts here?
For me, this particular forum is my best and only true resource. In the pages
of the few magazines I' ve been able sporadically locate, I' ve found mostly
confusion. Here, though, I read clear, mostly factual information on a topic
that has become somewhat of a quest for me. If our collective hobby fate is
truly in our hands, why further lament the failings of the larger community to
serve our specific interests? Why not take control of our community fate by
severally or conjointly publishing our own hobby mag? I have no where else been
able to view such high quality photos and videos of expert workmanship to match
the articulate and sometimes lively discussions also here.
Presented in a standard newsstand or electronic format, I'm up for the monthly
or quarterly anticipation and please count me in for immediate subscription for
up to $45/year.
And as soon as I have gained enough knowledge and experience to contribute, I
will gladly do so...still too new to the hobby to merit a voice in the
community. But I've been consistently thrilled with the various contributions
here!
An earlier comment about a specific for S-Scale switch motor...I would (and
will) use servos. They're cheaper than the purpose-built units popular in other
scales, can be sized to the specific job, move as fast or slow as I need them
to, can have several controlled from one control point, can use button, dcc or
program control and have more layout-friendly profiles, to boot. The lack of a
specific device is only as much a hurdle as we make it.
With all that, why would I want a purpose-built device for a higher price?
