I doubt this premise; as Dave (or dave?) questioned, there must have been other [real] reasons for this person's decision, and being able to blame something or someone else was an adequate pretext, at least in his mind. Breast-beating and second-guessing ourselves is not usually a productive activity. While it is true most people are conflict-averse in voluntary activities (what I love about church fights, where a very small number of the disaffected, sometimes only one really adamant troublemaker, can disrupt everything), I can understand the individual quitting the list--I've been tempted myself when some themes in which I have no interest go on interminably or when the negatives get past a certain point or when the tone becomes intolerably puerile (I am not necessarily talking about THIS list here, but ANY list), but what that has to do with my losing interest in a given hobby eludes me. While model railroading in any scale can be a valuable social activity, for most of us that is not its primary purpose, even where it is a secondary benefit. Too bad the individual didn't contact me, as I have so much O scale I might have swapped him some of my excess...
