I think it depends on how it's presented, I've been to displays where the
scale operators took the viewer along on a run, explaining all the steps and
teaching the kids why trains do the things they do , like switching an
industry, or sorting cars in a yard. The crowd always seemed to enjoy it and
after a short lesson on the remote control the kids learned how to bring a
train to a stop at a station or a signal then take the proper steps to get
going again. If there's older modelers in the club they might even teach the
kids some hand signals and let'em run the trains that way. Scale operating can
create more long term interest than running in a circle watching the same
barrels roll or cattle waddle into a car, the key is effort on the part of the
displaying group ....dave
