As a scale modeler, I have little to no interest in animated features layouts.
Little kids may, but then again, they aren't supporting the hobby, are they?
Not only that, these kids are equally infatuated with slot cars and other types
of race sets, so I doubt it is just the anomated feature that has their
attention... it is most likely anything that they can push a button on and make
it do something. Additionally... every little kid I ever saw was more
interested in racing their trains then they were in collecting them or scale
modeling them.

But let's take John Allen's now gone, but at one time world famous Gorre and
Daphetid layout, and George Sellios' world famous Franklin and South Manchester
layout and take a look at them... nope, nothing animated on that that I'm aware
of. Yet them are WORLD FAMOUS.

Are there any WORLD FAMOUS AF layouts out there with or without animated
features?

I don't...

  To John, and Bert,
Have you looked around lately as to what is out there for Animation in SCALE.
There is none . The AF animation is what gets the kids attention and the Dad
may get into our hobby. Come down to Texas and see what we have to offer and
see the kids reaction.
For the animation to fit scale you take what is in HO and modify it to make
it fit. Who is going to do that among the scale group. Let me know what you
find out.
  Thanks,
  Alan
