Someone needs to send Mr. Degnan the video of the Reg Bilidio (sp) layout in Canada. I've mentioned his name before on this list. From what I could see much of it would have equaled the most famous layouts of the time. The scratch building and animation would have made up for any possible lack of detail. Even the filming of his layout, for it's time, was well above average. And lets face it John Allen's layout really didn't run that well and my understanding was that George's layout, had the same problems.
There was an older gentlemen locally who did a lot of animation for his HO layout--most of it very scale like and appropriate for his layout. The problem with many modular layouts with animation is that they go from a fire scene, to the flying helicopter and then to the ski lift within 20 ft in any scale. I would guess it's sort of addictive for the guys building those scenes. I'm glad they're having fun building them.
