Pieter, I took part of Sat and Sun to move furniture around--1:1
furniture that is. When I got back on the list I caught all the flak
that I apparently caused or maybe it was String Bob. Anyway I had no
intention of setting folks off in different directions. Overall I think
our group is pretty good at solving railroad problems as well as some
good nature'd fun.
The engine chassis I received from Bill Roberts came from his railroad
the San Antonio Aransas Pass (which used to run about a mile from my
house, but is now buried under a toll road). The railroad that accepted
the chassis was the Great Plains Northern Terminal. Hence I accepted
foreign aid and will repay Bill in some way in the future.
So the idea of foreign aid and the Tsunami was only a parity of the
disasters in other parts of the world.
If you want to talk about California or Texas being foreign that's okay,
I've lived to both states. Both have their + & -'s. I've also been in
a California earthquake and I've read about the railroads having to deal
with the results of the 1906 quake. Since many of us will be
railroading in the Golden State in a few months we can only hope we
don't have to deal with any problems of that nature.
Last night, I did finish building a wiring harness for my Mikado. I
replaced two pair of Miniatonics mini plugs. I've always had the
problem of them pulling out at the worst time--generally when rerailing
the engine. So now I've gone to a more permanent wiring that I hope
will work better.
I do have a question regarding the capacitor that is hanging loose from
the Soundtrax Tsunami decoder. Is that thing hot--I mean if it contacts
parts of brass engine will it short? I guess the same question would
apply to many of the NCE and Lenz decoders that aren't covered with
shrink wrap. I've always used tape to keep the board insulated but
maybe that's not necessary. Any electronics's guys out there?
