Bob, The leads of the capacitor shouldn't touch anything, but the case doesn't matter.

Is that thing hot--I mean if it contacts parts of brass engine will it short? I guess the same question would apply to many of the NCE and Lenz decoders that aren't covered with shrink wrap.
