    The 65' drop end gons were often used this way, and the flats on either end 
or both as in this case were called "idler" flats. They were semi-permanently 
coupled by use of heavy wire wrapped around the cut levers and tied to the 
stirrups to prevent them from being inadvertently pulled by a crew member or 
kids out for "fun" (a favorite game they liked to play in yards in residential 
areas while a train is sitting) Another detail to add to cars loaded like this 
is small "DO NOT HUMP" signs tacked onto their tackboards. (for obvious reasons
