I know that if these are not removed, the AF type, gaugy-godzilla couplers will bump into these details as it swings. But just out of curiosity, how tight are the curve radii on your layout? If they are not wide enough, the underframes MUST be cut to prevent the wheel flanges from hitting the frame! I know this to be true from experience in both HO and S.
