They save time if one designs a layout that can use them as is. If it's about
the layout and not a specific car one just builds to use whatever is made that
suits the scheme. That's why the only flat kits I'd consider are things like 57
foot mech reefers and railgons as they are a common car for almost any scene. I
can live without the unusual stuff as long as I have the basics. If I wanted
the most variety of equipment I'd just build my layout in HO and be done with
the problem.....dave
