Having been on The Pacific Grand tour with the Second Marine Division I got to know New Zealand well. We still call it our "Home away from Home)
You can NEVER find people like that elsewhere. You can get some marvelous loco kits. BTS Ma &Pa 2-8-0's are from the same person making the NZ Ry loco kits. I cannot say enough. Especially after the NZ Embassy reception for all us at the 2nd Marine Div. Assn. convention in DC 2 years ago John Armstrong ----- Original Message ----- From: Jim and Cheryl Martin To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, April 28, 2011 2:49 PM Subject: {S-Scale List} A shout out to New Zealand Hi Guys: A big "hello and thanks" to list member Gavin Sowry for hosting me last month at his home near Wellington, New Zealand. This was a once-in-a-lifetime holiday trip for my wife and me, and when I found out Gavin lived in an area We'd be driving through, I got in touch. When I arrived, Gavin and two of his friends had set up a number of small portable layouts, mostly Gn15, in his garage. Being an S-scaler I was most interested in Gavin's Sn3 1/2 "Fernside" module depicting New Zealand prototypes. Gavin's friend Michael Gee also had a fine display of scratch built S scale passenger cars and locomotives, also in NZ 42 inch gauge. All the work they had out on display was top notch. Gavin also had his garden railway up and running, and to top it all off, full-size Kiwi Rail freight trains were running past on the track just over his back fence. This isn't news, but there are some great modellers down that way, and great people to boot.
