The latter option sounds very tempting; let me catch my breath (and get caught 
up on existing projects from before taking delivery of a large part of
the remaining Seeburger estate) before I contemplate more.
Incidentally, following Rusty's suggestion in a recent issue of S Gaugian I 
ordered some AM brake castings to install in AF hopper conversions but so
far have found the clearances problematic--hard to get the unit into the ends 
under the slope sheet and behind the end channels without cutting the
center sill, although that may be a solution.  I need more time to think about 
it.
