After months of considering myself an S-scaler, but never actually buying
anything, i switched "back" to HO (because it is "cheaper" [also the SMMW GP38
project was cancelled]). Suddenly it seemed as if my space doubled in size when
track planning. I then proceeded to start building a layout of the NYC at
Alloy, WV with the materials I had on hand(including the benchwork of my
planned S switching layout). I ran out of flex track, so I ran to my LHS, only
to find that both of the train-oriented ones nearby had closed. Going online to
buy supplies led me across ebay, where i found rollingstock much cheaper than
its MSRP. This (and looking at pictures of David Stewart's A&O) got me thinking
that perhaps S scale was more financially viable (I am always thwarted by O
scale's high entry cost) than I had previously ascertained and that i should
look into the "street price" of S rollingstock. Stumbling upon one e-tailer's
site, i found a AM SD-60M going for $189. I was astonished, what if all S
locomotives were this cheap. I use to believe (and still do) that S scales
growth was stunted by most modeler already having more than enough , and
therefore, very low runs of models being produced. My current plan is to use my
measly student income to purchase one S NYC F7 and some other highly detailed
HO locomotive, and compare them to see which I would like better. The problem
is, I have no idea where to find an S scale NYC F7. Also, is the SSA SD-45
still in production?

P.S. I hope i didn't ramble too much...
