I have to disagree with Jace. The E-27 strikes me as a great example
of a group of modelers, B&O in this case, getting behind a project and
helping to move it along to production. Personally, I find the E-27
to be too B&O specific and of no use to me as is. It's kind of sort
of like some other things but not really. I would have preferred a
USRA and would think that would be of more use to more modelers.

While I'm at it, I'll take this moment to lobby the S gods to send us
a complete line of affordable and available USRA locos. Basic staples
of the hobby in my mind. At least give us a 2-8-0, Mike and Pacific?

I guess these differences of opinion are what keep this hobby
interesting. Find a model railroader and you'll find some strong
opinions.

As I've complimented Don Thompson before, his choice of the basic E-27
and a careful selection of lettering for other class I roads with
similar mid-sized 2-8-0's was
inspired, unlike Weaver, who let the Chinese persuade them to offer a
generic (reportedly based on a Chinese prototype) 2-8-0 that looks
nothing like any recognizable
US locomotive.
