It is all subjective to the user. I like the sound effects but I don't
like the volume most of them run at. To me diesel locomotives in the real world
are much noisier that steam locomotives, but then I only own one diesel
locomotive model, and it is not DCC equipped. I also put my speaker in the
boiler. Lately in my custom boiler weight facing to the rear towards the motor.
I use copper or brass tube filled with lead for all of my weights. it makes a
nice sound baffle.
I learned the hard way that the the louder the sound usually means more power
consumption. The more lights the more power consumption. Stuff the module in a
closed space and the heat just keeps building up and soon, one day, real smoke
effects.
All of the BS about back EMF and using that to control the sound to me is
just more BS. I've switched to using the NCE D408SR motor decoder and using the
Tsunami for just the cam operated steam sound effect, whistle and bell. I
didn't kill fireman Fred, I did fire him from his job. The D408SR will handle 4
amps continuous and has more light functions than I think any one can use .
If QSI ever gets their act together I would buy one of theirs and try it.
So far, i understand they haven't stopped playing around with their revisions
and no new product is available. I was also told that I need a PC with windows
whatever and that my MAC won't work. The same with Locsound. They are also
suppose to be superior, according to my HO friends.
Maybe I'll cal that little hobby shop in Chicago this afternoon. I've
always had good luck with them in the past.
