Ben, I installed a 1 amp Tsunami Heavy in my AM northern. The engine has all metal drivers with scale flanges, no rubbr tires. I have had no problems.
The max slipping current was less than 1 amp. I removed the chuffer and smoke unit, and put the decoder and speaker in the boiler. I also removed the slide switch in the cab of the engine. Hook up was simple A long time ago I saw a photo of a modification that included a boiler backhead and cab seats, but do not know who made that kit. That project will be on my "when I get time" list. What is the groups' experience installing DCC sound in one of these beasts?
