I'm just afraid an age survey would be too depressing.
My rule of thumb is anyone tracing their S Scale roots to AF was probably born
before 1954. I trace my roots to AF but long ago moved to modeling and
supporting S Scale only. Another supposition is most of the younger than 50
folks out there came to S scale as model railroaders with no particular
memories, interests or ties to "the old country" of AF. That's not meant to be
a slam of AF, just the reality of the passage of time. Similar to the reality
that folks below the age of say 55 probably have no memory of steam locomotives
in every day revenue service.
It's all fodder for the "hot stove league".
