I think I've noted previously that I was certainly aware of AF as a boy, but
Lionel was what my family could afford (Western Auto store had good prices, for
those who can
remember WA, especially after Christmas sales); early on I went to HO (and
bought a few Gilbert HO cars from the local outlet, a plumbing supply store),
going to O scale
after twentysome years in scale modeling, adding S scale only 2-3 years ago as
yet another specialized interest (I dabble in traction, narrow gage, and
British light railways,
none of which share space). I was aware of AF but the only AF I've ever owned
has been recent junker purchases to convert. And I turned seventy a few weeks
back.
