I was very pleased with the result of stripping an AF boxcar body, using a REX
underframe (I'm not sure whether the new owner of the Downs castings is
offering them) with a decent brakewheel and AB components, repainting it and
applying a CDS lettering set (CNJ in this case); it is--at least to my eye--
a credible ARA early boxcar which varies the more common AAR types from AM,
SHS, and PRS. Until such time as Des Plaines is able to offer the X29,
this may be the only way short of scratchbuilding to obtain these ubiquitous
steam-era cars.

I have three AF plastic flatcar bodies ready for conversion, the most-advanced
currently sitting on the back of the workbench--not particularly hard to do.
