Wow folks, this was a good week to try to keep up with the list, great
conversations and I like the video Bill, inspiring, seems that no matter how
simple, it is fun to see what others are doing.
The Pines and Prairies group met out in Winsted, about 40 miles west of
Plymouth. We typically see Jim Brown's WUT or Winsted Union Terminal in
January but he was under going a big change and didn't want our meddling. Good
plan Jim. Anyway, he made a large double loop that is cleverly hidden so you
are not sure that is all that portion is until you watch carefully. In
addition, he has two peninsulas that come into the middle of the circle which
will provide nice operations. This is his second major rebuild in three years,
the first had him raise the level of the benchwork so now his duck under is
just that, you only have to duck, now crawl into the layout. Well done.
Perhaps Ben will post some photos of the unique modeling he has done.
I received my NMRA magazine and Brooks Stover has made the cover and he has
another great article inside. Brooks is an MMR and sure does a great job on
his layout. I have operated there also and can speak for how well the layout
does with prototype operations. Amazingly great publicity for S!
This week the PPSSW is going to meet here and I will have a bit of progress to
show and some projects for them to work on. With my lack of productive work,
you would think I was a congressman. As usual, the great variety of things
that model railroading allows me to do is one of the problems. I get
distracted by other neat things I want to accomplish. Every time I see Jim's
height change, i wish I could do the same. It would be easier to level the
house and start over than raise the layout. I guess I could dig out the
basement floor.....
Andre, in the Pines and Prairies Ming the merciless, would seem to violent for
our group, do you thing you would be OK with being "the Mingster" or
"Ming-a-ling"? More important, the point Bill and you made really ring true.
I really like the Northern Pacific but even picking a small time period, I
could never do justice to it. Thinking about your idea of the KC bottoms area
is intriguing. I have operated on a couple of interesting terminal railroads
here and in KC. One of the real fun aspects they bring is the opportunity to
run many types and paint schemes of motive power.
My major not railroad distraction is finishing a movie project for Steve Doyle
that features his Dad's speech before a Rotary club last November. The speech
was on his participation in WWII. I am also helping my Uncle Gordy put his
memories of WWII in the Pacific down on paper. Many great stories of history
that have not been documented.
Well, if anyone is in the Minneapolis area Thursday, come on over and visit
with the Pines and Prairies. The Minnesota Heartland allows no weapons on its
property, leave your potato guns at home.
Bill, if you make more decals, I would like to buy a few sets so I can
interchange with your railroad.
Andre, actually, my issue with Ming the Mercilless is that I have not been able
to come up with a good handle like that for myself. I am working on that for
my next career.
Have a great week,
Ken Zieska
