Hi all --

I will second Gerry’s comments.

I will also admit that I was concerned about the size of the Cabin Creek Tipple
complex until I started to use it for a somewhat different purpose and
rearranged the structures. I actually had to ADD several more buildings to
make it somewhat convincing, and still the whole complex probably uses less
than 4 square feet exclusive of all the sidings. For the original use I had
for the complex it was a bit too large, so I am still after a smaller tipple
building only. maybe a truck fed version. More than likely, I will scratch
something up when I get to that location on the layout.

I will say that I think the success of Bill’s Cabin Creek Coal kit has a lot to
do with what it is – a universally usable industry on a model railroad, with an
obvious reason for being. It also has several ancillary buildings which can
be used as intended or spread around the layout.

For those who want to see what one can kitbash from one of Bill’s laser cut
kits, you can visit my SLE&P album in the photos section of this group and
check out the coal transfer. If you think there are a lot of wasted parts, you
would be mistaken – I have uses for almost all of the pieces in the kit, even
if not in the complex. I still have a long ways to go before it is complete
(notice the walls are missing from one side to allow access for lighting and
more construction), but it is far enough along that I could get all the tracks
in place and functioning.

Have fun!

Bill Wade is absolutely correct. You're only limited by your imagination when
it comes to building structures. Mentioned below, the Elliott & Sons Supply, I
turned into K&W Recycling with a RR spur running along the dock, full interior
detail and lit up like a Christmas tree with Miniatronics' LEDs and
incandescent.

Reality vs Beliefs - Most folks think the big kits do not sell due to
limited layout space, high price tag, etc. In an individual case
situation that might be true for some folks, but overall we have sold as
many Cabin Creek Coal Tipples as we have Willets' Supply, Stock Pens,
and Anderson Pulpwood Yards _combined_.
