It’s always smart to make hotel reservation in advance, as once coming home from a camping trip in TN we tried to stop for the night in Stanton VA and all hotels where booked due to a dog show.
And yes, we leave for Maine in 13 days, to be in the great outdoors of Maine hiking and biking, as taking a trip somewhere is more then just looking at a bunch of leaves. Last time the reservations agent actually laughed when I decided we wanted to visit in late September. I didn't understand having lived in the NE all my life but apparently ME, NH and VT get swarmed by deprived (depraved?) southerners who never saw leaves change before. She said for that time of year you need about a year in advance. Luckily I had my Marriott Platinum and pulled rank for a room.
