Bud (and all you other patient people),
We did finally receive test shots of the large parts (car sides and ends,
extension sides and ends, floor bottom, inner floor, and under frame) cast in
resin. The parts looked very nice, except rivet detail was basically missing
on all parts, board separations in the car sides was not uniform (some board
separations were deeper than others), and board separations on the extension
sides and ends were too deep. Our supplier was informed of the above reasons
for not approving these test shots near the end of July 2011. As of the middle
of last week, I have been informed by the supplier that they are in the process
of sending castings to their prototyper to address these problems. This is the
process where the patterns will be reviewed for modification or new patterns
being made to resolve the problems. The patterns are used to make the molds
from which the castings are made.
There have been too many missed promise dates with this project that we won't
even speculate on actual delivery of the cars.
We are taking this project now one step at a time. The next step is to receive
a corrected set of test shots for our approval. When we receive this set of
test shots, I will post it so everyone is aware of the progress.
We want to thank everyone your support and for hanging in there with us. This
project has been far more frustrating for us than we had anticipated, but we
feel the end product will be a very nice addition to products available to S
scale.
