While I normally applaud recycling as both environmentally-sound and consonant
with my Yankee frugality,
where the article mentions reusing plastic and metal scrap I heard alarm bells.
 I am not a chemist, but I
do understand that there is a real limit on how often raw materials can be
reused before molecular change
degrades them.
The notorious zamac rot that is found occasionally in model railroad castings
has been pretty well documented
as resulting from lead contamination caused by remelted scrap.
