Bill, Slag cars strip them and paint them as if they are new and tell people they are being delivered from the manufacturer to a mill. I suppose you could take a weathering class from Gary ippolito and weather the dickens out of those cars and then tell people you're sending them back to the manufacturer to be rebuilt. Create a little shop that rebuids these cars (paint one brand one and beat one up and park them in two spurs (in & out). Slag cars in everyday service belong in steel mills in and around blast furnaces.
A number of steel mills sold iron to local foundries. It was not out of the question for a class 1 carrier to run an extra as a hot metal train from the mill to a foundry for a large pour but the iron would have been carried in bottle cars or in ladles cars, not slag cars. I hope this helps. Mike Lytle --- In [email protected], "Bill Lane" <bill@...> wrote: > > All > > > > I just won 2 steel slag cars on eBay last night.
