As previously mentioned, I think the U33C project as offered is a less than
optimal way to test the scale market. But Lionel is testing it for the
first time. Someone, I do not know whom, persuaded Lionel to try it.
Maybe the decision to ship the loco without the scale wheels indicates they
are
giving up before starting, but some on this list think it is because they
do not have the scale wheels ready yet and do not want to delay the product
any longer. Who knows? It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
But the more buyers who followup and order the scale wheels, the better
chance Lionel might offer more products with scale wheels. Or at least that
is my theory.

Well, I dunno, seems like a stretch to me, Earl. Facts is facts. We are a
tiny market. I suspect that Lionel executives took a look at the numbers
and decided they were not missing a lucrative market here. But I never said
don't try to convince them. Ed makes a good case for trying.

As for the S scale market growing, yes, I'm resigned to the fact that it
is not going to grow any larger than it already is. That doesn't mean I
don't support efforts to promote it, buy all I can from S vendors, try to
convince my benighted HO friends of its benefits, etc., but it does mean I am
willing to face the fact that there are very few S scalers under 50.
