Gentlemen,

Just to make sure that no misunderstanding in my comments about either Jim King
or Ted Schnepf may be inferred from my comments. Jim King is an excellent
person to deal with. In fact, he and I have been talking about the Tennessee
Central box car in resin for S. And Ted Schnepf is an excellent modeler. I,
too, am uncertain as to whether he used CAD on the Milwaukee rib-side in O or
whether he or someone whom he knows created a master and took it from there.
Both men are in business to make a profit. Unlike the Wall-Street occupiers, I
do not fault them for that. I have been laboring under the impression that
making a profit is what should be happening. So credit to both men for their
skills and their business acumen.

Gentlemen, Jim King stated the last time this was brought up that he wasn't
interested in the car at all. Reason was several versions are newly available
in HO and he needed to do both versions to be feasible! So it looks like the
only way to do such a project is to find a different builder or do some kind of
guarantee to Mr. King. Remember he's running a business, while we're running a
hobby.

I am one who models the Milwaukee as one of my four core railroads, so that car
is the backbone of my fleet. So I own several of the 40 fta cars and one 50
ft. Love them (along with my Milwaukee Road cabooses, thanks Jim & Dan), but
as a kid during the grain rush I'd see 30-40 of those cars on a train. You try
and hang 7 of those heavy brass cars on my trains with some plastic cars mixed
in and it's almost like real railroading where you have to watch your slack
action, stringlining and other factors! So I could use some of the earlier
versions also and also to just lighten up the load.

Hey Tom,

Good to hear from you.

Double the price is wildly optimistic, IMHO--I would wager that any brass
version would be at least $250, likely significantly more!

Also, remember that the B & O wagon top had been done in brass, but still
managed to generate numbers for SMMW.

I like the idea of the earlier version as well.

BTW, have you ever seen one of the kits Hoquat Hobbies used to have of these
cars? I'm assuming they were pretty primitive (how about that alliteration,
professor?), but have never laid eyes on one.

Cheers,

Fred

Colin,

To date it has not developed beyond the idea stage. I believe that we collected
about 35 or40 orders from 27 interested parties. Regretably, that did not meet
the required 100 orders. If we could still garner 100 orders, we would be
delighted to go at it again. This was for a plastic resin kit from Smokey
Mountain Modelworks.

Perhpas we can find a way to do the project in an alternative medium. That is
something to consider.

Tom
