Hi John.

The big craft stores should have what is called art sand.  Most of it is too 
bright and pastel for scenery use without painting but it will give you that 
fine texture you're looking for.

Me?  I've been working on the Castle Rock canyon area...trackage to be about 
60ft.  aboe the river/road.  Gonna be a good looker when it's done.
Hey...I'm looking for sandy soil.  The kind you find in the west, dry, sandy 
soil.  Woodland Scenics "earth" really doesn't do it.  I'm kinda thinking maybe 
Hobby Lobby or Michaels might have something.
Arizona Rock used to have great stuff but I think they're out of business.
