Ed,

The surcharge started at $10 per registrant, and is still the basic surcharge 
mentioned in the NASG Convention Handbook (available on line at the NASG web 
site).  Starting about 5 to 7 years ago (can't remember which convention it 
was) the convention host group at that time stated they wanted to make the 
surcharge equal to an NASG membership ($20 at the time), and then use the 
surcharge to purchase an NASG membership for the registrant.  NASG agreed to 
that, and most NASG Convention host groups after that time followed suit.  
However, all that NASG still officially requires for a non-member surcharge is 
$10 per registrant.  Remember the maximum NASG has approved for the non-member 
surcharge is $20.  Annual membership dues are now $25.
