Before I start tapering the rail, maybe somebody has experience in also adding guard rails near the gaps. I have seen photos of the prototype doing that. Most of the local guys (HO) have purchased the Walther's automatic indexing turntables that seem to work like they should.

PS - the tapered railheads is a prototype practice, at least on Santa Fe. BNSF may have outlawed them for some supercilious reason, like their effective simplicity.
