Progress on the Des Plaines SD-45 is coming along nicely. The body is
modular in nature, permitting different noses, cabs, ends, etc. Despite
this, the parts I saw all fit together seamlessly. Ron is working towards
ready-to-run units, but plans to make the parts available. This is a
kitbasher's dream.
Ron brought U-boats. I got my first look at
the SP version of the Lionel U-33C. The SP light package carries the
road-specific detailing further than I would have expected. Incidentally,
the weird horn placement on my Conrail unit is correct for an ex-EL
engine, as is the road number. Considering the source, they do appear to
be making some effort.
After a conversation with another
manufacturer, I am attempting the production of the first of several (I
hope) contemporary passenger-related projects. These would be specific
items that I want for my own use- I'm not looking to get into business.
However, if others want to share in an order, the unit cost will drop with
volume. I'll post some details shortly.
