John...
I built (converted to S) and reviewed the Peco turntable in the S Gaugian a
while back. It makes a nice small TT in S Scale, but it is really too small to
handle a 2-8-0 steamer. It works best for single unit diesels. It can be
operated manually and a motor option is available. Scenery Unlimited did sell
them.

It's been a long time, but Skip Redio of the Bristol Club (Boston area) used to
produce and sell a very nice basic S Scale turntable. It's about 120 scale
feet, is DC powered, has an aluminum pit (very sturdy) and comes with the pit
rail already installed. The bridge is simply a piece of wood (with the pit
wheels installed) to which you must add the girder details, ties and rail. I
have had one on my RR for 5 years and it works very well. The Bristol Club
has had one on their Club modular layout for ages and it also performs very
well. The price was $300-$350 a few years ago. If interested, I'll give you
Skip's contact info. This T/T is very strong and well engineered.

Diamond Scale also makes a very nice turntable. They have made an Sn3 D&RGW
version (it also could double for Sierra Railroad in S standard). This is
essentially a HO turntable, but would make into a really nice small S standard
gauge T/T. The Diamond Scale T/T uses a cast plaster pit and a built up wood
girder table. It makes a very nice T/T, but requires some skill to build and
make operational. I had two of them on my Sn3 RGS/D&RGW layout for ten years.
It is available with a hand-crank system or a powered version. Diamond Scale
has changed hands several times in the past few years, but, according to their
website, will again be producing these T/T's soon.
