Hi Arden,

Your Laramie turntable scene is spectacular, as is the scope of your entire
layout! I agree with your idea about close enough to look good.

“Model Railroader” published turntable plans in Feb., 1973 and July, 1980.
Also, I have attached 3 scans of plans I got from an internet search. These
give an idea of the proportion of the girder and pit depth in relation to the
length. The weight of the locos to be turned would have a bearing on the
thickness of the girder. My research has found that there is a lot of
variation on the prototype.

Thanks for opening your layout for O/S West. We really enjoyed our visit.

Subject: Re: {S-Scale List} Turntable Recommendation

I just posted a couple of pics of my Bowser 24" tt to the Photos folder under
Arden.

I bought it about 20 years ago. Just stuck it in my benchwork a couple months
ago. It was supposed to be ready for the July tour but my health did not allow
that or many other things.

The only choice was the diameter which is just enough for a Big Boy in S. The
pit is a little deep (O scale) but I filled it with a 1/2" white foam which you
might be able to see. Then I am going to taper fill it up to the top of the
ring rail. My depth of girder will be 1-1/4". A 96' would be 3/4 of that. One
inch would look good to me.
