As someone else mentioned, the stepper motor is an NYRS product with basic rotary control. It is then upgraded with a touch keypad, and an electronic brake. The turntable shaft is then upgraded from a 1/4" shaft to a 1/2" shaft. This same NYRS stepper motor is commercially used in industrial applications such as CNC machines, and their products are considered to be the best available The NYRS components alone cost almost $600. None of this is included in the basic turntable, at $475. Then add the costs and time involved in assembly. Hope that answers your question. <<Looks like a nice turntable. Can you tell me what it is about the stepper motor that adds $700 to the price?
