"Flown" might be the operative word!! Started Saturday in Tulsa, finished in
Des Plaines via MSP; MKE and Delta! Then spent a couple hours having a nice
chat with Ron Sebastian at the store. There is some optimism things are moving
in China and getting closer to a delivery date on the Duluth convention cars...
Spent the evening at DPV working on U33c. I installed scale wheels and removed
all the electronic gizmo guts so I could run straight DC. Sam McCoy is a week
ahead of me and spent the evening adding a sound decoder to his U33. It worked
really well when we installed the right speaker! Mine will get the same
treatment soon, then it will be time to tackle all those lights. Experienced
tips are always appreciated...
Speaking of tips; the center axle on both U33 trucks has tiny (and I mean
small!) brass shims under the journal bearings. The shims are only 3 or 4
thousandths and they can stick to the wheel sets you remove so look for them.
Without the shims the drive tends to bind, might have something to do with how
tight that center axle gear fits into the external gear train...
Next step will be to figure out how to power and use that smoke unit in
something else... another Saturday night "opportunity"...!
