Tom:
The speaker is inadequate - for a Tsunami decoder - especially when you have 
already ripped it out with the rest of the TMCC guts.  Most of us at DPV prefer 
the largest base reflex speaker we can fit; in this case the DLG8 from 
Railmaster.  The "right speaker" comment would refer to installing the 8 ohm 
version the first time, rather than initially discovering installation of the 
100 ohm version doesn't work so well!! <G>

If you look carefully inside that truck with the second connector (wheel sets 
removed), you will see it is connected to a tiny sensor that is under the axle 
with the "sound cam" piece at its center.  Not sure what it was there to 
"sense", like I said, the TMCC innards are history now.

I would suggest you do a search for those shims...!
