While my friend and fellow club member, Peter was tuning engines, I spent part of Saturday and Sunday re-routing Loco-Net cables. Many months ago I moved my Digitrax system to a different part of my layout with the idea of simplifying wiring and my life. The wiring thing helped by the simplifying but something didn't work. Right now, I'm unable to "boot-up" my system in a dependable fashion. I've verbally consulted a local electronics and a Digitrax consultant for some help. So far all the tests I've run have determined I've done things correctly, but the problem is not solved. So I may require a home visit, but I'm also the guy who refuses to ask for directions! This system has worked for more than a few years and the changes I've made have been minor. Now it's a bit like hand-cranking a car to get it running--easy to do, but just frustrating!

Of course, one can only spend so much time fooling with wires, so mid afternoon on Saturday a narrow-minded neighbor and I journeyed to College Station, Texas to visit the last run of an On3 logging railroad. The owner has now retired and decided to move to a nearby city to start fresh. He had built a neat logging railroad with lots of backwoods flavor including many "best of show" contest models. So some slowing running, great conversation and some local BBQ made the evening go well.

Sunday evening I decided to start a project that I put off last year--pulling out my window AC unit for some needed cleaning and what-not. Hopefully tonite I'll be able to reinstall the unit. It needs to happen fairly quickly because I now have an open window to the world and I don't need birds and squirrels moving in!

Hi All,

I spent a pleasant few hours this afternoon tinkering with my S Helper NW2 switcher engine and DecoderPro. I wanted to see if I could get the engine to crawl, and I did. I managed to get it to go a measured 0.12 scale mph at speed step "1". I also recently figured out how to get the engine to be quiet when the layout is turned on, and how to use the Stop button on the throttle to trigger the primer mover shut-down sound. I've captured this on a new page on my web site:

Yesterday I spent some time making two new brass wipers for one of my American Models FA-2 engines. I ran it for a few hours on our club layout last weekend, until it started stammering too much. I uploaded a brief 15 second video of the FA-2 A/B/A set running on our club layout last October. I'm starting to move my videos from YouTube to Vimeo (I don't like Google's privacy policy), so I'll be adding more over time.

Enjoy,
 - Peter.
