ACF has produced all sorts of covered hoppers.  Just do a Google image search.

Hi:
The Lionel website says the hopper is an ACF
model. Isn't that what PRS--SSA produce?
cheers

So Don, now that SHS is thankfully ramping back up, is this
something you would see as a viable future strategy, provided you found an O
scale manufacturer willing to sell the rights to their patterns? I'm not
suggesting anything...just wondering if the time is ripe for these sort of
  synergies.

I suspect the savings in time alone is very important as a set of
drawings takes 90 to 120 days.  But, if they use a complete set of
autocad drawings and just rescales and adjust for small changes needed in
thickness for stock items (screws, etc.) you are talking being ready to tool
in a few weeks instead of months....

How much does it save if the company already builds a car in O and
decides to add it in S ? Does it give them a big cost advantage over
someone
    starting from scratch?
