Rance:
I guess it goes back to how you define "close enough is good enough"…

If ALCO runs in your veins, both the current PA's in S have some flaws that are
hard to look at - and regrettably once you notice the flaws you just can't look
at the model without seeing them! Again, for those in the "close enough is
good enough" market, that's fine – move on. I have a couple AF shells, a
couple AM shells and various other materials salted away; from all that will
come a credible PA-1… someday. I wouldn't advocate any manufacturer build a
new PA now unless it is perfect; which probably dictates brass for a more
limited and exacting market. In that same vein, S scale already has two FA2
models – brass and plastic; both are quite credible. For me, an FA1 would be
nice but I doubt it could generate enough interest in the current fractious S
Scale market.

Personally, I'm quite impressed with Lionel's U33c, much more impressed than I
expected to be. I'll be on board for at least one SD70ACe. If MTH wants to
add to the mix, I'll judge their product on its merits. Right now I'm just
happy with what I'm seeing produced and announced, let alone any potential in
the wings. IMHO the key to the future will be that new models expand the pool
of money being spent on S scale.
