Just a note to let all know that the Lionel AF 2012 print catalog is out and
that you should visit your Lionel dealer real soon to ge a copy if you are so
inclined. I suspect that they will be in short supply as we are almost out
here. After passing out a few to the regulars, and sendng one to those who
purchased U33s, we are about out.
I suspect the SD70Ace is going to be a real barnburner. Although Lionel could
not have known about the NS heritage units when they decided to do the SD70ACe,
they have an incredible opportunity here, especially with folks who favor
Eastern railroads. Up until now, the only the UP heritage units have been done
in multiple scales and have done quite well, especially for fans of UPs'
heritage roads. That hasn't done much for Eastern fans until the NS
announcement. Who would have thought we would have the potential for SD70Aces
in CNJ, Erie, DL&W, RDG, PRR, Wab, N&W, Southern, or even Interstate. There is
even going to be an Illinois Terminal for Illinois fans. We are talking real
live prototype modern diesels for our favorite fallen flag. I bet Don Thompson
would pony up for a CNJ one in blue and orange real quickly. This can be a
real rainmaker for Lionel from the S Scale market, and hopefully drive Lionel
deeper into S.
If you have any interest in seeing Lionel get interested in doing these in S,
drop them a NOTE, Not an email, but a Note on real paper sent through the
postal service. I've observed and learned over the years that email is great
for some things, but far less effective for others. "I wanna" emails get read,
lost, stuffed in suspense folders never to be read again. Real mail gets read
and stuffed into a physical folder that may grow and be noticed. I know that
here, we feel that anyone who takes the time to write a note and lick a stamp
is somewhat more serious that a two day internet email "I wanna" canpaign.
This has turned into a tome too long, but S Scale has become real exciting
lately and its future bright.
