I've painted and decaled an IGA delivery truck from Jerry Glow decals.
Working on painting and lettering a ET&WNC 50's highway rig. Had to
get the Tweetsie on the layout somehow. Hung a few more trees on the
backdrop. I painted a coal dump truck. Going afta letter it for the
King Coal Co. I suspect. Actually the Jim King Coal Co. Hope Jim
doesn't mind (mined?) it's a UMW truck.

S Scale Friends,
I rarely tune in to this group on the weekend. When I'm busy at the
studio, I sit with two computers one doing this, and hopefully one
actually making a few penny's. So I'm glad I missed the fireworks for
the most part. That being said I've said a few things on this list that
some people haven't liked. Differing opinions and reasons for one's
judgment calls need to be respected, but the name calling should be
reserved for talk radio! I wonder if those severe storms in the upper
Midwest stirred up this mayhem on the list. All fun aside, I hope any
of our S people near that storm did okay.
Friday evening I was invited to a nearby Santa Fe layout for a operating
session. This modeler, Steve Sandifier (well known in the ATSF modeling
circles) is modeling a branch line located on the Midwest prairies of
Kansas. Only two operators plus the owner make for a full house. Had a
great time working a gravel pit, and then a MP/ATSF interchange with
very severe trackage restrictions. Many of the operators here use the
Rail Ops system or some other computer generated switchlist. In this
case Steve used car cards which take a little different thought process
and since it was only my second time with them... but I did okay. Steve
has mirrors attached to the ceiling in certain areas for switching
parallel yard tracks. He also makes up his own remote controlled
uncouplers that seem to work really well. He made one for me, but I
have yet to install it (it will be located in a painful location).
On Saturday my lawn/weeds needed a haircut. Since I think I only mowed
once last year, my mower needed some care/kicking and cursing to bring
it back to life. Saturday evening brought me up to the layout room to
run some trains. Sunday afternoon had me hooking up my airbrush to
began repainting a couple of diesels.
To elaborate it bit, last summer I had decided to follow several
recommendations and try Star Brand Paints. After painting my two brass
GP-030's with less than desirable results--I needed to try again.
Several weeks ago I blasted them with aluminum oxide and then sealed
them in plastic bags. I then investigated using automotive type
primers. The recommendations I was given were for products that no
longer are made. So I took the recommendation of one of the counter
guys. I'm never sure whether to take their advise because one whiff of
the air in a paint store will make you doubt any reasoning. Anyway, it
has seemed to work just fine. I will probably take advantage of a nice
sunny afternoon today to shoot some Armour yellow over the bodies and
then some caboose red on another long overdue project. I plan to use
ScaleCoat paints for this repaint. If the primer works out you might
read about it in the S Sig and if it also fails, well, I'll keep quiet!
I'm also awaiting decals from LBR and OddsBall to complete a few other
projects. Rumor also says that the city fathers and a couple of bigwigs
in the township of Madra have given their blessing to a new grain
elevator to be erected in that fair city. Actually I sold a HO
Walther's feed mill, so I then moved a Leigh Valley Hawk Mill into that
location, leaving room for another structure. I'll probably upgrade
that general area as I build that structure later in the spring.
