Hello Everyone,

For my edition of "Friday Night Fun" I don't have anything to report in terms of progress on the layout. However, this week I decided to try something "different".

A couple of weeks ago I was at Bill Lane's and I mentioned to him that I only operate my layout maybe twice a month. As the words left my lips, I realized how silly that was. I have this nice (albeit small) switching layout and I don't "play" with it!

So, this week I decided to not spend any time building anything, but rather just operate the layout for 30 to 45 minutes each evening. I just move some cars around, solving the switching puzzles. At the beginning of the "session" I decide to move such-n-so car from where it is to that siding, and another set of cars from this siding to the other one. Nothing fancy, but nonetheless, it is fun and relaxing.

Everything ran quite well. My new PRR X37 had low-profile wheels installed, but after one session, I swapped those out with "normal" profile wheels, because the car kept derailing at various locations (none of my other cars derail anywhere). That solved that problem.

Last night I started up my RS-1 and it ran for about a foot and then shut down! No lights, sounds, motion, nada! Completely dead in the water. It had been running fine all week. I just blew it off and did all my switching with the SHS NW2. Tonight I turned on the DCC system and the RS-1 starts running! Go figure!

Enjoy your trains,
 - Peter.
