I'll second what Bill has said regarding respirators. When I worked for a large studio/lab the boss had purchased a very nice, but homemade spray booth. I decided to use it when I got back into modeling. The problem was the fan was so strong that it sucked the paint away before it got to what I was painting--think wind machine here.

So I decided to paint without the fan. One night was boxcar red and another black. Each night I would blow my nose with a different color in the tissue. The other night, I was painting with Scalecoat and webbing on my respirator broke, so I had to go without. Since I don't paint that much, I probably won't shorten my life but this weekend I'll take a trip to Harbor Freight for a replacement. As expected the replacement parts for my old one was more $$ than a new one.

Towards the end of the time period that was painting "open air" in the basement and got my paint booth I started using a respirator. That was only for a few years. Now in spite of having my paint booth with 2 fans for maybe 15 years I use a respirator all the time. I even use 1 when I use my blast booth. I used to urge Russ Downs to use a respirator and he finally did after many years. Russ' main health issue when he passed was respiratory & he never smoked.

I guess I am saying it you paint you have to use a respirator at all times.

Thank You,
