Water Base paint needs air movement over the paint film to dry. What happens is
in a still environment the water will evaporate and lay on top of the film
surface trapping the water. This will keep the film from drying. Humidity at
the surface is what you need to control to increase the drying rate. In our
auto body paint shop we spray water and use ceiling fans to dry not heat. I
have been painting models for quite some years with water and I use a hair
drier on them with no problems. As for masking, there is new tapes designed for
water base two tones that 3m has come out with for the automotive water market.
