Hi folks,
Just checking in with an update on the Minnesota Heartland. I have been making
slow progress on the layout, too many distractions. I hosted the Pines and
Prairies S Scale Workshop meeting a week ago and spent some time talking about
how I didn't like the way the scenery tied in to the expanded industrial area.
Lots said, nothing done. Monday afternoon Tom Lennon stopped by and I brought
the subject up again. Tom thought about it and said "hold on a minute", he
walked away and came back with Marilyn's Sawsall... Thus ended the talk and
began the destruction. Thursday, Tom and Steve Doyle stopped by and did some
brainstorming on how the area will be transformed, I like what they have in
mind so I have been busy cleaning up the mess from the Sawsall and making
supports for the new scenery. I really enjoy having creative folks to help
imagine things I don't seem to be able to come up with myself.
I enjoy the home page photo. I knew those guys! In fact it was about 36 years
ago this summer we met Don and Robin at a NASG convention in San Jose. How
time flies. I still run some of the resin kits Don made in the day and of
course SHS motive power is a huge part of my roster. I have not read the list
too carefully but do I really understand some people are bemoaning the purchase
by MTH because they might not be scale orientated enough? I would like to say
I can't believe it but I do. Most forget that SHS was not perfect, they cut a
few corners and occasionally had something in the market that was not perfect.
I bet they even put road names on cars that was not prototypical Oh well, my
model railroad is better for the product they produced and I have enjoyed my
hobby more because of them. I welcome MTH, they seem to be good businessmen
and have enough backing to do something with the line. Perhaps Don and Mike
will do some "consulting" on the scale but whatever, this can only be good for
everyone.
I did an operating session on a beautiful HO layout today and plan on dropping
over to see what Steve is up to on his Burlington. I need to spend some time
here because the operating session today gave me an idea of a neat operational
detail I can add to my layout.
Have a good week.
