My wife Jami has read some of the posts in this thread and she wants you all to know that her Lionel train has been running around the oval flawlessly for more than 55 years.
This afternoon, a local train guy, who is also a UP engineer, brought a friend from Germany over to see my trains. His friend was also an engineer, now retired. We ran some informal operations for 2 1/2 hours with no incidents except an unthrown switch (my fault). The best part was that Allan was at the throttle of my Southwind 2-8-0 that I just equipped with a Tsunami sound decoder, and Dieter said it sounded perfect! He fires a steamer on a tourist line in Germany, so I was pleased. Hi George -- Well, you are just being prototypical. The Gunnison roundhouse was modified at least once by a loco going out the back... While I like operations, I also like to “railfan” my trains. It is difficult to do both at the same time, so the standard gauge can go around and around and around if I just feel like watching those nifty models roll past... I even have a revolving barstool and a rocking chair (!) to put me at the correct height and ease the old bones. Have fun! Bill Winans ----------------------------- I had a flawless night operating a D&RGW K-36 on Gary Rabetoy's layout tonight until I ran the loco out the back of the roundhouse. ...Gary's work, my enjoyment. Fun watching Gary and Dean Odiorne down on their knees to watch the train roll by at eye level: The way sixty something year old men enjoy trains. George Courtney
