I once chatted with Jim Hinds of Richmond Controls and he says he uses
acid core and that's on wiring! Keeping everything clean before, during
and after is the trick. I guess it's sort of like surgery--keep the
infections away! I have noticed in a couple of areas under the layout
of the resin flux having it's own corrosion issues. I do use some flux
cleaner when doing that delicate decoder wiring.

Hi,
I use Kesters' Soldering Resin Paste(Flux) and 60/40 solder resin
core. I don't bother with all the fancy ones even though I have tried
them. This has always worked and still does.
One of my friends always uses acid flux because it washes off so
easily. Each to his own.
Lately the lead free seems to work.
cheers,
