Someone new looking to get into S scale could just buy the Lionel loco and
the Lionel controller and be all set. They would not be worried about
compatibility with their old stuff cause they wouldn't have any. Guys with DCC
layouts would convert new locos to DCC since that's what they like. DC guys
would just pull the control stuff out and run the loco on DC. The only problem
is when you start mixing stuff like scale and high rail or DC and AC so most
modelers avoid that...DaveBranum
